MECGC EVENT/RIDE CALENDAR

The MECGC Clubhouse, 238 Mudgeeraba Road, Mudgeeraba will be open on Thursday & Saturday mornings (even if the weather is bad) for a cuppa and chinwag.

Monday rides – Meet at Cafe Tahbella, Shop 11/3 Cottonwood Place, Oxenford from 8am, ride 9am TBA. Riders at the café will discuss and decide on the ride trip for the day. Unless advised prior. If the café is closed, meet at  Maccas.

Thursday  Rides – Meet at the MECGC Clubhouse from 8:00am for a coffee and chat – Ride leaving MECGC Clubhouse at 9am – Ride Plan suggestions will be put forward and decided on the day.

Saturday Rides – Meet at the MECGC Clubhouse from 7.00am departs 8.00am and an hour later in winter (June, July and August). Join us for a chat or a cup of tea/coffee from the Clubhouse. CLICK HERE for the Saturday Ride Plan.

MECGC Monthly Meetings – 3rd Wednesday of each month, Clubhouse opens from 6:30pm, meeting starts at 7pm.

SATURDAY RIDE DETAILS  7-9-24. ???? ????????
 
As this ride coincides with the bikers breakfast and the overnighter to Texas it could be busy at the clubhouse. Stands up at 8:30am.
 
This ride will be through Maudsland across the M1 at Pimpama and out through the cane fields to Jacob’s Well through Woongoolba and under M1 at Yatala.
 
Then to Jimboomba via Beaudesert-Beenleigh road, Plunkett road and Waterford-Tambourine road, across Mt Lindsay highway and out to Flagstone for coffee stop.
 
After the break we can decide which way home.
 
Please assure bladder is empty and fuel tank is full. Free air to fill tyres at club. Members please wear your name tags for the benefit of new riders.

Ride to Zero, “How to Keep it UPRIGHT” Rider Training Course Schedule

The course is open to MECGC members and members of the public.  A great opportunity to brush up on all your riding skills. Look forward to seeing you on the course.

The program value is actually $295 per person, but the Ride to Zero Government Grant funding pays for most of that fee, so you only have to contribute $50.

Courses at the Mudgeeraba Clubhouse and is now open for registration. Please go to the link below for full details and information on the course. Enrolling in the course is simply, in the link below go to the “Ticket” section and click “Get Ticket” – it’s that easy. Your registration will be recorded, and you will receive your ticket with a QR code (please bring on course day).

To All Members

As you may know our Ride to Zero Grant from the QLD Govt was approved.

Course Details:

  1. Courses will be run in groups of 5 riders – that is, 5 members per trainer. We will be conducting courses with a maximum of 10 riders per day (2 groups with 2 instructors)
  2. Courses will be run during the week and also on the weekend, courses will run from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. However weekday courses, for those who can attend, will provide SMART Rider Academy with more flexibility in dates and availability of course instructors
  3. All courses will be conducted at the Club House in the following format:
  1. a) 2 to 2 1/2 hours at the club house (Training Room) covering road craft fundamentals, cornering and braking techniques and a little bit on motorcycle maintenance
  2. b) There will be 1 hour in the parking lot to cover low speed riding skills on your bikes
  3. c) Then 2 hours on the road (5 riders with 1 instructor) to cover riding skills 

Course Variations

Currently we have several course variations that are being offered:

  • Motorcycle control in varying conditions 
  • Braking, cornering and road craft skills
  • Riding with a pillion 
  • As an extension of the above, SMART Rider Academy can also conduct a variation that would involve off-road riding in the 2-hour riding element 

This is a great opportunity for all members to brush up their riding skills and would encourage all members to participate. Please reply to this e-mail on the following points.

  • Availability for mid-week courses (and day preference) or weekend course. Please note weekend course dates may be limited.

About SMART Rider Academy

SMART Rider Academy is a privately owned Australian company established to provide cost-effective training to motorcycle riders that improves their essential roadcraft skills and enjoyment of riding.

With funding support from Queensland Transport and Main Roads, SMART Rider Academy was the first organisation in the private sector to offer subsidised training to the motorcycle community in Queensland and is now the largest provider of post-licence road-based training in the state.

In 2017 SMART Rider Academy partnered with Queensland Police Service to create and deliver the “How to keep it UP-RIGHT” program. This program has now been delivered to over 1,400 riders in South East Queensland and is the model for the new “Ride to Zero” program being offered to clubs and not-for-profit organisations throughout Queensland.

Special Interest Vehicle Concession

MECGC membership can save you money on QLD REGO.

Eligible vehicles

This concession is available for the following vehicles:

  • historic vehicles:
    • vehicles that are at least 30 years old including motorcycles
    • heavy buses that are at least 25 years old
  • street rods and hot rods:
    • vehicles modified for safe road use and have a body and frame built before 1949
    • replicas of a vehicle that have a body and frame built before 1949
  • historic ambulances and fire-fighting equipment vehicles:
    • retired ambulances and fire-fighting equipment vehicles (no age restriction) that are now used for display

Left hand drive vehicles may be registered under the scheme if the vehicle is a:

  • light vehicle (gross vehicle mass (GVM) not over 4.5 tonnes) and at least 30 years old

or

  • heavy vehicle (GVM over 4.5 tonnes) at least 30 years old and has been issued with a Left Hand Drive Exemption Permit by the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator.

In the case of historic ambulances and fire-fighting equipment vehicles, the vehicle must be converted to right hand drive if the vehicle is a:

  • light vehicle (GVM not over 4.5 tonnes) and less than 25 years old

or

  • heavy vehicle (GVM over 4.5 tonnes) and less than 30 years old.
